Originating in 1988, the Passivhaus movement began as a conversation between Bo Adamson from Sweden’s Lund University and Wolfgang Feist, who worked for the German Institute for Housing and the Environment. They discussed the various properties constructed by new home builders in the US in the early 1970s, who were attempting to fabricate low-energy houses in response to the oil embargo. Canada and Denmark also began looking at building alternatives during this decade.
