What should I pay particular attention to?

Important features of gutters that you should pay attention to are:

  • high resistance to rusting,
  • good mechanical resistance,
  • impermeability,
  • low temperature expansion,
  • obtained quality certificates

Types of roof guttering:

PVC gutters are the most affordable solution. Moreover, in order to increase resistance to the harmful effects of solar radiation, gutters are enriched by manufacturers with special additives.  Their biggest advantage is the elimination of maintenance and corrosion resistance, they are easy to install, light, impact and scratch resistant.

Aluminium gutters – made of aluminium-manganese sheet, coated on both sides with paints with the addition of various plastics, which prevents darkening. Their advantage is high smoothness. They are available  in two variants, as finished components or made on site.

Steel gutters – more expensive alternative to plastic guttering. It is insensitive to high and low temperatures. The reason for choosing steel gutters is the high impact resistance and rigidity, which eliminates the risk of deformation when there is heavy snow and ice.

Copper gutters – the high price means that many do not even consider copper guttering. However, its durability, estimated even at 300 years, is impressive. Another advantage of gutters and downpipes made of copper is resistance to corrosion, without the need for maintenance, mechanical damage and is unaffected by temperature fluctuations. However, as it reacts with aluminium and steel sheets, the use of copper guttering is not possible with these types of roofing materials.

Which gutters should you choose?

As you can see, each type has its advantages and disadvantages, so the choice should be based on the following factors: type of roofing, maintenance, durability and budget. When choosing gutters made of PVC, we must take into account that they can change colour over time, while steel gutters are an expensive but very durable option. On the other hand, aluminium gutters are a great alternative, but you need to keep maintenance in mind. Copper gutters are by far the most durable variant, but in this case you need to have a substantial budget.
